Southwest Branch will be closed on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26 for replacement of the HVAC unit. The book drop will remain open and we plan to resume normal operating hours on Wednesday, March 27.

Summary The theme of the story is the character of Juan Santa Cruz, the only son of a wealthy bourgeois family in late nineteenth century Madrid. In his student days, the young man leads a dissipated life in which he meets and becomes infatuated with Fortunata, a beautiful girl of humble origins. Juan seduces Fortunata and becomes her lover but ends up getting bored of it and disappears from her life. His mother decides to marry him to his niece Jacinta. During the honeymoon, the young man tells his wife his adventures through the slums of Madrid.
