520 London—the greatest city on earth. Travelers, traders,
buyers, beggars, soldiers, settlers, leaders, and laborers
have crossed paths here, all languages and walks of life
jostling and mingling. Two thousand years of stories are
waiting to be told. This wonderful collection, which is as
light and dark, quirky and diverse as the capital itself,
brings these stories to life by professional storyteller
and long-term London resident Helen East. Drawing on oral
history, folk sources, and written texts, she retells old
favorites like Dick Whittington alongside glorious new
discoveries, such as royal rats, Saint Uncumber, ghosts
and fateful fish. With 50 beautiful illustrations, this
book will charm and delight residents and visitors alike.
